Philippine Literature Critic Dr. Leonard Casper

Linda Ty Casper, and I have been emailing each other recently, and she sent me a picture of her husband, Dr. Leonard Casper. I asked permission to post it, and Linda said to go ahead.

Len and Linda Casper have extended so much kindness to me through the years.

Linda, a noted Philippine novelist, has participated in many of my book projects, such as Fiction by Filipinos in AmericaContemporary Fiction by Filipinos in America, Growing Up Filipino, and many more.

Dr. Leonard Casper discussed my literary work in his reviews and books, including, Possibilities of Humaneness in an Age of Slaughter (Sunsurfers Seen from Afar: Critical Essays, Anvil); BACK-AZIMUTH Filipino Writers Abroard (Kinaadman XXVII 2005; and Review of Song of Yvonne (Philippine Studies 41).

Leonard Casper, a pioneer in serious criticism of Philippine Literature in English, is the author/editor of 16 books and has taught in 5 colleges in two continents. He first went to the Philippines in 1953 as a visiting professor from Cornell University, and he taught at the University of the Philippines. He was also a Fulbright visiting lecturer to the Philippines and taught at the University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, and Philippine Normal University. He taught at the Boston College for 45 years.

There is a summary of his works in this site.

This site also has a description of his papers at Syracuse University.

Thanks again to Linda and Len for all their support and best wishes to them and their family this new year.
